September 2010 was the first KUEF service trip to Meru. Leadership was provided by Marianne Clauw, then Executive Director of KUEF, Dr. Dan Clauw and founding Board Member, Beth Miller.  Beth, the current KUEF Executive Director,  has been to Meru eight times since 2003. She has led seven  service teams to Kenya and introduced over 190 volunteers to Meru. This was Marianne's second trip to Meru and Dan's third. Beth and Gil Miller with Kithoka Primary students. The September 2010 projects facilitated by the service team in one week in Meru included: Set up and installation of the 13 workspace computer lab - see Computer Lab project page for additional information & photos  First Aide Classes at BLISS for students and for the staff at The Thiri Centre  Art and educational projects at Kithoka and Bishop Imathiu Primary Schools  HIV/AIDS and Sex Education for high school students at BLISS  Advance planning for partnerships/exchanges of University of Michigan with MUST (Meru University of Science and Technology) and KEMU (Kenyan Methodist University.)  Investigating  partnership of the schools of nursing from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire and KEMU. Bliss Students are taught basic First Aide by Gilson Miller and team on September service week.   Students practice Heimlich maneuver.                                                   Photos of Dr. Deb Jeffries, Beth Miller, Gwynn Sterken and Dr. Dan Clauw teaching at Primary school in Sept. 201 Members of the University of Michigan staff on the trip included Dr. Jeffery Punch- Professor of Surgery and Chief of the Division of Transplantation in the Section of General Surgery, Dr. Mark Wilson-Professor of Epidemiology & Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology , Dr. Dan Clauw- Professor of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology, Director of the Chronic Pain and Fatigue Research Center and Director of the Michigan Institute for Clinical and Health Research and Dr. Debbie Jeffries -Clinical Assistant Professor, Department of Radiology. Dr. Susan Peck, Professor from University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire, College of Nursing and Health Sciences returned for a second time for additional meetings with KEMU staff and students.  There usually one or two service trips per year, with 14 - 21 participants on each trip.  Participants fund their own travel.  For information about future trips, contact Executive Director, Beth Miller at bmiller@kuef.org
