Music
Award-winning band. The first-ever day school to perform at the national level.
Program Impact
“Music is the means in which I best express myself. Words are not my talent—I express clumsily in words what the pure music would have done better!”
– Yvonne Kawira, Student of Music at Bliss
Building on 20 years of Success
The BLISS band program funding pays for the students to perform in competitions, and that includes providing resources for the teachers, equipment, and travel. We are so grateful to private donors and First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor (Michigan) for their vision and support over the years. We are actively working to grow our existing music program by adding new orchestra and choral groups, while continuing to support and meet the needs of all current music programs.
“If I were not a musician, I would become a musician. I think in music. I walk musically, I breathe music, I live my daydreams in music. Music shapes students at BLISS. Whatever I do, I see my life in terms of music.”
– Timothy Jeremiah, Director of Music at Bliss
Goals
Continue ongoing support for competitions, on the local and national level.
Establish and launch both choral groups and a full orchestra.
Support and align KUEF and BLISS with the new Kenyan curriculum for competency-based learning in music and all the arts.
Next Steps
KUEFs’ new music program director, Michael Labertew, and BLISS Director of Music, Timothy Jeremiah, are excited to embark on this growing partnership.
